Chapter 25: Jack's Hockey Night
Three week later, at the bullpen, Jack is wearing blue v-neck shirt and gray khakis.
D: I have news to share. Donna and I are pregnant. We are going to have a baby.
Jack: Congratulations, D. I’m so happy for you. We should go out and celebrate.
Bobby: Congratulations, mate. Do you know if it will be a boy or girl?
D: I have a feeling it will be a girl but we won’t know for sure yet. We will find out in several weeks though if Donna wants to know. Then we can all celebrate.
Myles: Congratulations, D. It seems you are the only one of us adding to the family tree.
Sue: Congratulations, D. It must be so exciting for you and Donna.
D: It is. But luckily we have experience with 2 kids under our belt. (laughs)
Lucy: Congratulations, D. I love babies. They are so tiny & cute. Sign me up for babysitting duties.
D: I’ll let you know. Thanks, guys for being so happy for me. And Lucy, you’ll be the first one I call when Donna and I need a break from the new baby. (laughs)
One Week Later- GAME 6:
At last, Jack and Sue are going to the Stanley Cup Finals, 4th row seats. Jack is wearing a white polo, blue shirt, light brown jacket, and black slack.
Jack: I still can’t believe I’m going to watch the Capitals take on Predators for the Stanley Cup Title. This is awesome!
Sue: Yeah. Who am I supposed to be cheering for anyway?
Jack: We cheer for the home team, Washington Capitals all the way.
Sue: Got it. I’m glad to be going to the game with you.
Jack: Me too. You are the best. Just tell me how you got the tickets?
Sue: You really want to know? I called Curtis and ask him if he could do me a favor. He came through for me.
Jack: I should have known; Curtis would be the only person to get these tickets. I’m glad you’re here with me. Let’s go watch game 6; hopefully the Capitals will be victorious.
Sue and Jack buy mementos from the gift shop before they get to their seats. They bought matching Washington Capitals hockey jerseys. Now they are sitting in 4th row stadium seats watching the Washington Capitals and Nashville Predators go at it with each other. Jack is watching the hockey game with fascination. He really loves this sport.
The stadium is very noisy and everyone is cheering for their own team. Capitals are leading Predators 3-2 in the series. Tonight’s match up should be thrilling; and the outcome will determine the Stanley Cup Winners unless the Predators win and force a game 7. 1st period the predators leads 1 to 0. 2nd period the capitals come back to put points on the board. 3rd period the capitals gain momentum and they score. But the Predators come back to tie the game. Overtime period the capitals play hard and they score the winning goal. He shoots, the puck is good, he scores inside the net, and the game is over 4-3. Ladies and gentlemen, the Washington Capitals are your Stanley Cup Finals Winners. They take home that big trophy and defend their title next year. Thank you all for coming out to support us. We could not have won without our awesome fans. Thanks again. Everybody cheers, the team skates around the ice and take pictures with the fans. Sue and Jack go down and meet the team. In addition, they get an autograph picture of the Washington Capitals team. It was awesome night.
Jack: Thank you, Sue. I had the best time tonight. And to top it off, the Washington Capitals finally won the Stanley Cup and I got to see it happen. That was really cool.
Sue: I’m glad I went to the game with you. And I am so happy that the Capitals beat the Predators. If they didn’t; I don’t think you would be having a good time. (Laughs)
Jack: You’re right. I would be disappointed if the Capitals lost to the Predators. But I would have a great time with you anyway, whatever we are doing, as long as you are with me.
It’s raining. Jack is holding the umbrella for Sue and pulls her closer so she doesn’t get wet. In the next moment, Jack forgets about the rain and kisses Sue thoroughly on the mouth. He framed her face with his hands and holds her snugly. He drops the umbrella on the ground but he doesn’t care. The rain is falling down around them; Jack and Sue are in their own little world. Jack angles his head slightly so he can kiss Sue more deeply. The kiss last for eight nanoseconds more before Jack releases Sue.
Sue: That’s okay. I like the rain. And a little water never hurt anybody. (Smiles)
Jack: In this case it might. Besides I don’t want you to catch a cold. Stay here, I’ll bring the car around. (smiles)
Sue: Awe. That’s sweet. You are so gallant. (In the car) What do you want to do now?
Jack: I would suggest going back to my place. But I know it is late.
Sue: Yeah. I guess you’re right.
At her apartment door, he kisses her one more time before saying goodnight. He wishes he could stay but knows he can’t because Lucy is inside. He whispers sweet dreams, Sue. Goodnight. I’ll see you tomorrow. Bye.
