Chapter 12: Subway Showdown

Subway Mairie d’Issy Line 12: 1 hr and 28 minutes on the clock

The team races to the Paris subway station to capture and disarm Anthony Oman. He doesn’t give up without a fight. Patrick and Oman are wrestling each other on the subway platform. Oman has a timer in his left hand. Patrick yells he’s got a remote detonator but the virus is not on him. He must have put the virus somewhere else.  Jack and the team search every nook and cranny, all entrances and exits of the subway station.

All the while, Jack counts down the clock in his head, there is only 25 minutes left to stop Anthony Oman.  At last, Jack, Wes, and Bobby find the virus container near a phone booth, next to the northwest entrance.  Meantime, Patrick and Oman trade punches, Jack rushes back to Patrick, he comes in time to grab the device out of Oman’s hands.  Jack disarms it by cutting the red wire. The timer shuts off with 3 minutes to spare. Jack tells the rest of the team “we’re all clear”.  Bobby pulls Oman up and cuffs him.  Wes carts the “special cargo” away. Dimitrius and Myles call for backup, Haz-mat teams enter and they find out that the virus has been contained.  French authorities enter and check out the perimeter once more to make sure everything is back to normal. Tara calls Jack to confirm that the other 5 vials have also been found and not one shred of the virus was dispersed.

Lady luck was shining on them this time. What a relief. Patrick and Jack laugh and it feels really good. They can wrap things up in Paris and go back to the U.S. in a few days. Things can get back to normal for a change. Everyone has been up for hours to help capture Sean Balitran and his merry men.

Patrick O’Reilly: We made it before the deadline. That was way too close. Thanks, man. I owe you one.

Jack: No problem. I had a close call before until Bobby and Wes saved me from the jaws of Chloe Johnson.

Bobby: You two ready to get going? We should stop by the hospital Sparky and have the doctor take a good look at your left shoulder.

Jack: Yeah. Alright. I’ll go to the hospital, but under one condition.

Bobby: What condition might that be? (laughs)

Jack: Don’t tell Sue and the other ladies about what happened with Chloe earlier. (smiles)

Wes: Not a problem. It will be our little secret. (smiles)

Patrick: Yeah, and I can call the President to tell him the crisis is finally over. Thanks to you guys and Wes Kenner. I couldn’t have done this operation without you all. The mission was a success. There will be time to interrogate Anthony Oman and find out what else he has knowledge about after we extradite him to USA.

Bobby: Nothing to it. Except there are too many sleeper cells in the U.S. and that’s what keeps me awake at night.

Jack: I know how you can use that time; figure out how to catch them before they can strike on American soil again.

Wes: Never again, not on my watch! This is why we do the jobs we do everyday to keep American citizens safe from the likes of Balitran and his organization which I assume will be dismantle shortly.

D: That is the best news of all. It’s music to my ears.

The guys take Jack to the hospital and have him checked out. The doctor said Jack is fine; but he needs to take it easy. The doctor tells Jack that the bullet grazed him, if it had been more to the center, it would have hit an inch from his heart. He goes on to say, you are a very fortunate man; Agent Hudson. Later, the guys go back to Victoria Palace Hotel to celebrate with new friends and savor their victory.
