Chapter 11: Showdown  @ Beach House

At the beach house in Calais, France 13 hrs 35 minutes Jack is wearing gray suit with white shirt and red tie.

Jack: All units we are here, beach house is in sight. We have not seen any movement. I wonder what Balitran is up to now?

Patrick O’Reilly: He’s got something planned alright. But I’m not going to let him get away. Not this time. I’ll do whatever I have to do to capture him.

Wes: We need men to cover the back, front, and all other entrances. First, put on your protective gear and spread out to cover your bases. Remember to watch your back, boys.

Bobby: I have a visual on Balitran but I don’t see Chloe or Danny anywhere.

Myles: That’s not good. What if Chloe is here to distract us while Balitran has absconded?

D: Well, then we will just have to nab her first and make her to tell us where he is.

Jack: Alright. We go in on my signal. I’m going to look for Danny. I promise Hannah. Danny is my responsibility. Bobby, Wes, and I will go in the south entrance. Myles, Dimitrius, and Patrick will go in the north entrance.

Patrick O’Reilly: We have SWAT, snipers, ERT, SOG, EMT, and aerial team circling outside. They have surrounded the area and are ready to converge on the house as soon as we give the signal. Let’s do this. All for one, and one for all!

They do a coordinated breach. Balitran is at the window looking out at the ocean. He’s been expecting Patrick and his friends to arrive. But he also has two more tricks up his sleeve.

Balitran: So good to see you again, old friend. Death begins today.

Patrick O’Reilly: We’re not friends anymore. I work for the U.S. and the President; he has ordered me to bring you in. Now tell me where are the 12 missing Iglas? Where are the 13 vials you threatened to release?

Balitran: You think you can take me in handcuffs just like that. You better think again. You of all people know what I’m capable of doing when my back is against the wall. Or don’t you?

Patrick O’Reilly: I know. But you should know that I’m capable of doing just about anything to take you down too. That is not a threat, old friend, but a promise.

Balitran: Iglas are in a safe place where my people; Brothers of Shadows can do the most damage to the U.S. when your President least expects it. Checking his watch, with a sneer for Patrick, he says; you and your buddies are too late. The Souza virus will strike across U.S. very soon.

Patrick O’Reilly: By the way, why did you ordered Chloe to kill Eduardo? Why did you choose Chloe as a mole to work in my agency? What are you talking about? Answer me.

Balitran: Simple. I had no use for Eduardo anymore. As for Chloe being a mole well that you should ask her yourself.  That is what is so funny about Americans. You claim to be this superpower and yet you have people working right under your noses, like Chloe working against U.S. interests for me. But you don’t even have a clue. It really is a shame. Now then, enough chitchat. Tell your people to back off or suffer the consequences of your actions.

Patrick O’Reilly: Fine. You go down first and then I will deal with Chloe later. You know I can’t do that. You have no way out. Do yourself a favor and surrender now before anyone else gets hurt. And I’ll be sure to send you a postcard in prison.

Meanwhile, Jack is upstairs looking for Danny. 11 hrs 34 minutes

Jack: Danny I’m here to help you but you have to help me find you first. Where are you, buddy? I’m a friend of your mom’s. You can come out now.

Just as he is about to open the bedroom door, Jack hears a click behind him. And when he turns around, who does he see but Chloe Johnson with a Glock in her hand aimed right at his chest.

Chloe: Are you looking for Danny? He’s not here.

Jack: If he’s not here, mind telling me where you are hiding him?

Chloe: No, I don’t think so. And you are not going anywhere either.

Jack: Is that so? What are you going to do, shoot me and run? You could try, but you won’t get very far. We’ve got you and your boyfriend Balitran hemmed in. There’s no way out for you. Surrender now and things will go a lot easier on you. Tell me where Danny is.

Chloe: Yes, I’m going to shoot you. You should be very afraid.

Bobby and Wes hear Jack and Chloe arguing, they race up the stairs two at a time. Suddenly, two shots are fired. Chloe missed the first shot, the second ricocheted and hit Jack. He felt a flash of fire but was quick to recover on his feet, clutching his arm instantly. Blood oozed out of his arm but Jack is oblivious because he is focused on finding Danny. Everything happened so fast, Bobby runs to the second floor and tackles Chloe to the ground in no time at all. Wes has a gun trained on her as soon as Bobby moves he can take the shot. Wes tells Jack go look for Danny. Bobby and I can handle Chloe. Jack runs to the other room, checks under the bed, and then looks in the closet. He opens the door and sees Danny sitting there, his hands are tied, and crying out for his mommy.

Jack: Danny, don’t worry, buddy I am going to take you home to see your mommy real soon. Can I see you smile?

Danny looks up at Jack, and then gives him a little smile. Jack holds Danny’s hand in his, when he felt another sharp flash of pain in his left shoulder. He looks down and sees a hole went through his bulletproof vest. He murmurs to himself, this is not good. His shoulder is aching so much that he and Danny walk very slowly back to Bobby and Wes. In the other room, Bobby knocks the gun out of her hand. She keeps fighting and kicks him in the shin, in the stomach also, as she tries to free herself from Bobby’s grasp. Bobby is hanging on forcefully, so Chloe punches him in the eye. Bobby gets the wind knocked out of him for a minute, they scuffle and finally he gets the upper hand. As Jack and Danny enter, Jack sees Chloe down for the count. In next to no time at all, Myles and Dimitrius enter and what they see shocked them both.

Bobby: Chloe, won’t be going anywhere anytime soon, mate.

Jack: What did you do to her?

Bobby: It’s like wrestling with a crocodile in the Australian swamps. She’s not so tough without her Glock trained on you. It was a piece of cake.

Wes: Yeah, we got her good. And it’s a good thing we showed up when we did. Jack, you’ve been hit. There’s a hole in your vest. Why didn’t you say something?

Jack: What? Oh, this? It’s just a flesh wound. It’s a minor graze in my left shoulder. It’s nothing serious. The bulletproof vest took the hit. I’m fine. What happened to your eye?

Dimitrius: What happened in here? I’m sending in EMT here to check you two boys out. I’m also going to radio for an ambulance.

Jack: No need, big D. I’m fine. No time for that anyway. Nothing I can’t handle. I’m tough and I have work to do. (rigid smile, he is in pain, tough guy)

Bobby: So am I. We got everything under controlled. Except, I was taught by my mum not to hit a lady. I think I have to reconsider that rule when it pertains to firecrackers like Chloe over there. Too bad, you boys miss all the fun. (laughs)

Dimitrius: Yeah I can see that. Just to make sure I would like a second and third opinion from the EMT guys. (laughs)

Myles: Well. It looks like Hurricane Chloe blew in here and knocked you two out. If she wasn’t so evil, I would consider dating her.

Jack: Ouch. Myles don’t make me laugh. It hurts too much. Not even you would be a match for Hurricane Chloe. (laughs)

Wes: Sorry, Myles. I’m afraid you have to wait in line. I suspect Chloe likes Jack the best. What did I tell you, Jack the women you pick to go out with are dreadful.

Bobby: That’s right. By the way, you owe us dinner for saving your life once again.

Jack: Ha-Ha. Thanks Wes and Crash. Dinner is on me. But knock it off with the women jokes will you?  Aren’t you two supposed to be Patrick’s backup team?

Myles: Well yes. He asked us to leave. He said, and I quote, “This is between me and Balitran”, end quote. Go figure.

Jack and Bobby are being checked out by the EMT guys. But Jack refuses to go to the hospital, he is being stubborn. Jack is adamant; he says “No hospital. I have a job to do here. I am not going to be sidelined. So just patch me up as quickly as you can. I’m tough”. Doug bandages Jack up and gives him pain medication. Doug also tells Jack to make sure to see a doctor as soon as possible before the wound gets infected. That’s the best he can do under the circumstances. He reminds Jack, you should be in hospital. Tommy checks Bobby out. But there’s nothing he can do about the black eye except give Bobby ice packs to help with the swelling.

Dimitrius: We did catch a couple of wanna be terrorists. They are not talking. No surprise there. (laughs)

Bobby: Have you tried to stick dynamite in their mouths to see if that will do the trick?

Dimitrius: No, but good suggestion. Let’s go see how Patrick is doing with the unstoppable Sean Balitran.

Wes: Good idea. I’d like a chance to ring his neck if Patrick doesn’t do it first. (Laughs)

Bobby: Also a good idea. I would like a crack at Balitran myself. (laughs)

Meantime, downstairs Balitran and Patrick, neither one is giving an inch in the kitchen. Jack holding onto Danny’s hands and they all walk down the stairs and hear Patrick in the kitchen trying to reason with Balitran. Jack tells the team to take Danny outside. It’s time to end this once and for all.

Balitran: You might be interested to know that I have ordered my men to dispense the Souza virus in various strategic U.S. cities, time is running out for you. You won’t find all 13 vials before mayhem rain down upon American soil.

Patrick: Tell me what I want to know. You don’t want innocent people to die, do you? Are you that cold-blooded and ruthless?

Jack: What’s going on here, Patrick? Give me a reason to shoot you, Balitran and I will.

Patrick: We may have a bigger problem on our hands now more than ever. There are 13 vials of the Souza virus in U.S. cities, and if Balitran is to be believed, we have 9 hours to stop his organization from destroying U.S. completely.

Jack: Let’s move. We’re wasting time arguing with him.

Balitran: Have it your way. I will give you a hint, one vial is right here in France. I gave it to Anthony Oman. But you won’t be able to catch him. The other 12 vials are in U.S. most populated cities. See if you can find them all. I know you can’t.

Patrick: You’re bluffing, Balitran. I’m taking you into custody. Let’s go.

Jack: We need to find the 13 vials before it is too late, Patrick.

They don’t notice that Balitran slip opium into his mouth and swallowed it. He collapsed on the floor, they hear a thump behind them, Patrick checks for a pulse. He shakes his head and tells Jack that Balitran is dead.

Jack: Why did he kill himself?

Patrick: I don’t know. Maybe it was his last attempt to wreck havoc on us so we can’t find all 13 vials. It would be just like him.

Jack: Great. Balitran is dead. We have no way of locating all 13 vials.

In the interim, back at suite 1036, Tara and Stanley are working hard on cracking the rest of the encryption codes that Balitran set up. Just then, Stanley deciphered another statement only this one combined with the previous ones, it is really bad news for everyone.

Stanley: Tara, look at this. America’s greatest tourist attraction will start a wave of pandemonium and open Pandora Box.

Tara: Checking the database and cross referencing the words from the code-generator…attractions meaning locations and Pandora box meaning more attacks will come. But where and when, I’ve got to call Jack.

Jack: This is Jack. Hey, Tara, I need you to cross-reference Anthony Oman with known terrorist cells and aliases in the database.

Tara: Jack, Stanley and I have come across another statement that could mean an attack of potential High Value Target is underway in the U.S.

Jack: I was afraid of that. That’s what Balitran told us before he killed himself. We are on our way back; we should be there soon. You and Stanley work your magic. We need to find all 13 vials, one is in France. Tell Hannah we have Danny and he is safe and sound.

Back at the suite- As soon as they arrive back at suite 1036, Danny runs straight to Hannah’s waiting arms. They hug each other. Hannah thanks everyone for their support and for bringing Danny back home safely. Jack is wearing burgundy pullover and gray slack.

Wes: So, we now know that there are 12 vials in U.S. cities and 1 here in France. We need to stop Brothers of Shadows from releasing the virus. We have 6 hours 10 minutes.

Myles: We have to alert all local and federal law enforcement agencies to be on the lookout for suspicious activities in their areas.

D: We need to get Haz-Mat, NIH, and CDC to handle the various cases if they crop up before we can stop them from releasing anymore of the virus.

Patrick: The good news is that he hasn’t unleashed the virus yet. But we don’t have much time left to find all 13 vials.

Stanley: Wait a minute. After working on the encoded numbers repeatedly trying to decode them, I got something. The code-generator combined with the GPS coordinates on his laptop computer kicked back specific location data. The encoded numbers represents locations of high value targets; here they are: New York City, San Francisco, Orlando, Las Vegas, St. Louis, Chicago, Washington D.C., San Diego, Pittsburg, Boston, New Orleans, and Cleveland.

Jack: Great work, Stanley. Lucy, get on the phone and alert all of law enforcement and send the Haz-mat, NIH, and CDC teams out to these precise locations. Tell them to send whatever manpower they can spare, we need to stop this virus attack. We want this more and we all know what this means. Let’s do this.

Wes: That leaves us with the only vial left here in France. Do we know where the location is yet?

Tara: I have confirmed the GPS coordinates in the U.S. I don’t have any luck with the last location.

Lucy: Local and federal agencies are working on disrupting Balitran’s merry men as we speak.

Sue: What about the Paris tunnel? Stanley mentioned that could be a target from the codes.

Bobby: Maybe, but we don’t have time to cover all of Paris and all neighboring cities. We have 3 hrs 15 minutes before all hell breaks loose.

Tara gets confirmation that they have disarmed the merry men and the vials are still intact at 6 locations, but I’m still waiting for the other agencies to report back with their findings.

Sue: All we can do now is pray.

D: The good news, we are halfway out of the woods so to speak.

Lucy: Jack, Sonny says she needs to speak to you.

Jack: Thanks, Lucy. Hi Sonny what’s up?

Sonny: I wanted you to know that you can cross D.C. off your list; Haz-mat team found the vial and it is still intact. Thank goodness for small miracles. And Jessica has more info.

Jack: That’s great news. That makes 7 locations accounted for. Please put Jessica on.

Jessica: Hi Jack, I heard what happened. I’m not sure if this helps your case right now, but I had another dream. I saw a man in his 30’s holding something in his left hand; he is wearing baggy gray pants and a gray hooded shirt. He is at the subway station looking at the Paris map. There is a sign that reads Mairie d’Issy Line 12 17:25 above him.

Jack: Thank you, Jessica. You have just made my day. I’ve got to go but I will call you soon. Sleep well. Bye.  Listen up, everybody. Anthony Oman is at the subway station at Mairie d’Issy Line 12. Tara, keep me posted on locating the other 5 vials that are unaccounted for.

Myles: Anthony Oman, that doesn’t sound like an American name.

Bobby: Maybe he converted to Islam and is now a religious fanatic.

D: We need to lock down the subway station, make sure nobody leaves or enters the perimeter we set up, without authorization from one of us.

Wes: We have got to do it quietly, so people won’t panic. And search everyone at the subway station.
